The outdoor pep rally scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 31, on the downtown square was cancelled because heavy rain was forecast. Mr. Sanders announced the decision on Tuesday. The pep rally for the first home football game was instead held in the arena on Friday afternoon. For two years, the downtown event has been a popular one because it’s held after work hours and a lot of community residents turn out to cheer on the football team. However, Hurricane Harvey that caused so much damage in Houston dropped a lot of rain on Magnolia that didn’t end until Friday, and the indoor event got the student body ready for football.
