Cross country team members say they’re feeling very optimistic about this running season. The team has faced many changes this year, but members say they’re looking forward to a new and improved team.

The team has a new coach  — Coach Thomas. He took over after T. J. Powell accepted a different position in the district. Several team members report Coach Thomas has already created a bond with the runners, instilling confidence.

At the beginning of the first practice, Coach Thomas said, “I enjoy coaching players with heart. I don’t look for ability, even though it does take some type of ability to run 3.1 miles.” He then added, “I look for the students that will give one-hundred percent everywhere they go. That’s the type of people I like to coach.”

Cross Country starts in the middle of July and continues into the school year. The team had its first meet Sept. 2 in Texarkana.

This season’s cross country runners are Grant Baker, Dylan McCoy, Dondrail Gulley, Eric Greene, Jordan Sigala, MarKeveon Strickland, Brendon Crow, Steven Birmingham, Melanie Martin, Maria Guzman, Ashlynn Garett, Janie Barham, and Amber Dycus.
